| Helen L. Kimmel, of New York, has pledged $150-million to New York University Langone Medical Center, for a new patient facility. Ms. Kimmel serves on the medical center's Board of Trustees. She is the widow of Martin S. Kimmel, who co-founded Kimco Realty Corporation, a real estate development company, in New Hyde Park, N.Y. Mr. Kimmel died in April. |

| Robert and Catherine McDevitt have bequeathed IBM stock valued at $50-million to Le Moyne College, in Syracuse, N.Y. The money will endow academic programs in computer science, information processing, physics, and religious philosophy. Mr. McDevitt, who died in September, owned McDevitt Brothers Funeral Home, in Binghampton, N.Y. His cousin, the late Rev. Edward L. McDevitt, established the college's physics department in 1946. Ms. McDevitt died in early 2008. |

| R. Michael Shanahan, chairman of Capital Group Companies, a financial firm in Los Angeles, and his wife, Mary, have pledged $25-million to Harvey Mudd College, in Claremont, Calif. The Shanahans said the college could use the money, which will be paid out over five years, for any purpose. Of the total pledged, the couple has paid $12.5-million. Mr. Shanahan serves on the college's Board of Trustees. |

The money will support the business school's accounting department and its honors program. Mr. O'Hara, a part-time lecturer in McCombs' accounting department, earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the university in 1968. |
