Banner Advertising

There are two banner ad impressions per page throughout most sections of The Chronicle's Web site.

  • Banner Placement
  • Third-Party Ad Trafficking
  • Targeting Options
  • Reporting
  • Creative Specifications
  • View Sample Banners
  • Rates

    Banner Placement

    Button Banners (120 x 90 pixels)
    The 120 x 90 button banner appears in the upper left-hand corner of each page.

    Skyscraper Banners (160 x 600 pixels)
    The 160 x 600 skyscraper runs along the right side of the page adjacent to the editorial content.

    Square Banners (300 x 250 pixels)
    The 300 x 250 square banner is prominently located above-the-fold on the Philanthropy.com homepage and within the copy on most of our editorial pages.

    Targeting Options

    Using DoubleClick's DART technology, advertisers can target their desired audience by editorial section, country, state, ZIP code, area code, top-level and second-level domains, operating system, Internet service provider, and browser type.

    Ad Trafficking

    Third-party

    Advertisers who wish to traffic banner ads through DoubleClick must submit Internal Redirect tags. Advertisers trafficking ads through a third-party server other than DoubleClick must submit Standard Redirect or Rich Media tags.

    Site-served

    Advertisers who do not traffic banner ads through a third-party server must submit banner creative along with a live click-through URL.

    Reporting

    Chronicle advertisers can view the success of their banner advertising campaign at any time. Advertisers will be sent a user name and password via e-mail for access to the DoubleClick system at the beginning of the advertising campaign. Campaign-performance statistics can be viewed by day, by banner, and by all targeting criteria. The reports can be downloaded from DoubleClick and used in most spreadsheet programs. Reports can also be generated in the Adobe PDF format.

    Click-Tracking Instructions for Rich Media Creative

    Ad production cannot guarantee that click-through data will be tracked for all third-party served rich media technologies. To track clicks for ads created in Flash 6, assign the following ActionScript code to the button in the Flash file:

    on (release) {
    getURL(clickTAG, "_blank");
    }
